HOUSEABILITY, formerly known as Disabled Persons Housing Service Aberdeenshire, was formed in 1999. Registered as a charity, we aim to help and support disabled people in Aberdeenshire with housing needs. We are funded by Aberdeenshire Coucil and operate through a board of directors. We are based in Peterhead and cover the whole of Aberdeenshire. We help up to 50 people every year with housing problems and we would like to help more. According to figures from the Housing Needs Survey carried out by Aberdeenshire Council in 1999 there were approximately 8,000 households in Aberdeenshire where one or more members of the household having a particular housing need. The majority of these falling into two categories - physical disability (54.4%) and frail elderly (34.3%).
Our Mission is:
To enable disabled people through advocacy to achieve positive, equitable solutions to their housing needs and promote independent living.
Our Aims are:
To take a personal client-focus, and work in partnership with individuals to identify and access housing options and choices which fit the unique needs of each person.
To work in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council and the Registered Social Landlords to identify suitable accommodation to fit the specific needs of each individual client.
To supplement and add value to existing housing and community care services by working in, and creating partnerships across all agencies and sectors, and exercising an informed influence on future provision and standards.
